Medium: Acrylic Dimension: A3 size This is the drawing that I did for my year end-examination last year! We were given 3 hours to draw an A3 size painting of a chosen topic. For me I chose the topic reminisce, I drew old sewing machine sewing out a patchwork and on each patch of cloth is a drawing of either a olden place or toys that children played in the past like the chateh, five stones or the paper ball. The sewing machine is sewing out the different scenes of the past, which is sort of reminiscing about the past – something that we would not really see around us anymore. Children would rather play with Barbie dolls, Lego toy block, machine guns rather that chateh or five stones. I made the patchwork colourful to represent the vibrant past.

Fat lady! This piece of work was actually an assignment that required us to mimic an old master painting. When I was browsing through the internet, I happened to chance upon the portrait of this lady, however I am not very sure about the title or name of the artist BUT I do know that it is called fat lady because that was the first thing that Mrs Teo said about her. Actually I chose this portrait because the lady in it looked quite special, the look on her face made me wanted to draw her. It was drawn in many layers of poster to make it realistic. I think my end product still looked quite 2-D, perhaps I should have made the layers thicker so that the lady would have looked more real and ‘alive’ As you all can see, the final product is actually still a far cry from the actual portrait. Old masters’ paintings are all very beautiful, as in their figures would look very real and flawless. Their subject’s skin can be that smooth and supple as if it is real. It is very amazing how a brush and paints can create something like that, the colours are so evenly spread out and the tone is so realistic. Different era also have different style, there is the realistic ones as well as the impressionist ones like Monet, but no matter what all these paintings still never fails to WOW all of us.
