At the art exhibition, the piece of work that caught my eye was the one with the depiction of hair. So since i found this similar paintbrush on photoshop, i decided to have some fun myself. 

 i felt that this art piece at the exhibition was really interesting and unique. (although it did give me goose bumps when i realised that they were all pieces of hair) I feel that sometimes when there are too much clutter around, things get really messy and you lose your focus. However this piece was simple, clear and eye-catching. Its a pity i did not take a picture of that piece.

this was a still life excercise done in class. Mrs Teo set up a still life and we crowded around it, sketching it form different angles. I personally like using charcoal as a medium. Hence i throughly enjoyed myself. Sometimes, when we go back to the basics of black and white, we realise that there is a beauty in black and white as well, just like the way there is beauty in leaving open spaces.

i particularly like this photo which i took during a wedding. It was a church wedding and there was a reception after the wedding. There were many wonderful deserts which looked to good to be eaten. i especially liked the way the layout of the food was done! Anyway, one reason why i like this photo is because it brings back memories of the joyous occasion. The other reason is due to the changing perspectives this photo brings about, coupled with the beautiful cupcake.

This was a piece done in sec 3 during art lesson. This was the first time i was painting a potrait of such great scale, and to be honest, i was pretty scared. But well, it was enjoyable, i really enjoyed painting the clothes and the head gear. The only part i did not enjoy was the face! Which is why my strokes became controlled and there is not much shading on the face. Hence this has led me to specially painting potraits, which has been uploaded in my earlier posts.

The reason why i chose this potrait was due to the emotion evoked by the original painting. While i did not manage to capture her expression and emotion conveyed accurately, that was what attracted me to this potrait.

This was an excerise we did in sec 3. This was just a spur of the moment, due to random outbursts of creativity. However, looking back, i think this is kind of like introspection, me from the inside. While i do not know why i feel this way, i just hit me while i was scanning in all my pieces. So, there you go, here’s me from the inside. (more…)

This was an excercise done in class, by picking shapes and designs from a sheet to create an illustration. This is the story of Jack and Jill. Jack and Jill went up the hill to collect water, and then they tumbled down the hill. Kind of like my own interpretation of the age old story of Jack and Jill.  

Its interesting to do these kind of things which brings out your personal response to age old things. Then you see your perspectives clearly, things you never knew you possessed.

This is the proccess of my story boarding. I intially wanted to use cartoon characters. However, as it progressed, the style changed accordingly and this is how my storyboard ended up like.

This story is titled, Kim and the adventures of Mr Muffin.
Kim eats a muffin as she watches the rain pour heavily outside. She then wishes that she could go outside and play in the sunshine. Little does she know that the muffin was eating was a magic muffin and after each bite she takes, it would take her to where ever she wanted to go. However, she would have no more wishes after the last bite of muffin was finished. Hence Kim goes to the funfair, play ground and so on. Eventually however, she decides thathome is where she really wants to be, for that is where her loved ones are.

I did this story based on the concept of love. Kim’s idea towards love was essentially how i felt towards love, that we should trasure it and our loved ones around.

This marked the end product of my sec 3 course work, and my sec 3 year. This is because when i think back, the key moments in my sec 3 art year were when me and andrea came back to school at night to finish our sculpture and the process of my course work. Hence this piece of painting which i did during the painting and drawing exams in essence signifies my sec 3 art year.

I had great fun doing this. This idea came about when i was thinking about my childhood and what i remembered from it. From my childhood memories, i distinctly remember putting on my mother’s high heels and tottering around the house, kind of like the way you wish to grow up and do ‘adult-like’ things when you are young. Then the idea of me as an old women looking back on my childhood came to mind. Hence i decided to super-impose the idea of a diary above the illustration. Kind of like the diary of my childhood.

The process of piecing together this painting was equivalent to piecing the pieces of my childhood and recollecting the memories.

After going for the UK trip, i left thinking that only other countries have large pastures, nice weather and natural beatuies. However, after much thought, i came to a conslusion that it was based on perception. When you are overseas, you tend to keep a lookout for sceneic moments which you can capture to remeber your trip there forever. However, i was sure that the beauty we saw in Singapore was in a slightly different form, but equally beautiful. For around the world, things we see are all nature, one way or the other.

Hence i brought my camera around for a while and took pictures on the way home. These are the beauties we fail to notice in our everyday hustle. I think thats what i need to do to remind myself once in a while.
