D8- Hong Zi

D8- Hong Zi

Title: Hong Zi

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2

Description: This is something that I did for fun on 25 April 2007. It’s obviously the Nanyang Hong Zi. I was just doodling and this became the product haha. Well I tried to use the “grass” way of calligraphic writing in this case. I think it looks quite pleasing to the eye luckily. I like the “nan” better than the “yang” though. :P

N22- Disney’s Stitch and Angel

These are Disney’s Stitch and Angel, all done in Adobe Photoshop CS2. The picture on the right is made for a competition in Deviantart while the left is just a print/stamp/postcard which I made out of it. The competition requires us to put in “Hidden Mickey” in our entries. I have put in 2 hidden mickeys in my entry. Can you spot both of them? :D Have fun searching! :)

N21- Disney Princesses Sports

Title: Ariel and Basketball

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2

Description: I wanted to dedicate this to Loish and so I tried drawing Ariel in her style. Ariel really looks dynamic here. :)

Title: Belle and Tennis

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2

Description: Since it was quite fun doing Ariel and Basketball, I decided to do the same thing on Belle. The only difference is that Belle plays tennis and looks much more demure than Ariel. I don’t know the reason as to why I did that though. :P

N20- Disney’s Aladdin: A Whole New World

Title: A Whole New World

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2

Description: One of the nicest scenes in Disney movies. I am happy with most of the parts of this picture except for Aladdin’s face. He looks kind of distorted haha but oh well, since I had no reference. xD

N17- Hana no Steps

Title: Hana no Steps (Flower Steps)

Medium: Pencil, Adobe Photoshop 6

Description: This is the first digital painting that I have ever done in my life. This was done in Sec 1 (2004) and I did not have a tablet yet then. So I had to draw with pencil, scan in and then colour on the computer.

Green is the new Black

“Green is the new Black” is yet another exhibition I went to. It is also in NAFA but in Campus 2’s Curiocity. It is mainly an exhibition on fashion products. The details of the exhibition can be found here. The description is as follows:

“Following its exhibition in Artisan Gallery (formerly known as CQ Gallery in Brisbane, Australia) from March to April 2007, it is travelling to Curiocity in Singapore from 26 July to 15 August. A collaboration of works by students and graduates from the Queensland University of Technology; Creative Precinct; NAFA School of Fashion Studies and other practising eco-fashion and product designers.”

by Men Wusi, NAFA, Department of Fashion Studies

by Tan Lee Yin, NAFA, Department of Fashion Studies

by Hannah Gartside, Queensland University of Technology, Fashion Design

The above are some of the artworks on display in the exhibition. The 3rd - 5th pieces of works are actually quite interesting. They are made of recycled materials from house on Croydon Street. This piece has thus definitely made me realise that fashion design is really not only confined to clothes and costumes. At least before looking at this artwork, that’s what I relate to when I think of fashion designs/studies. :P
